Just Like Christmas…

It isn’t opening day, but it is the next best thing… first spring training game! While I enjoy watching basketball, football and hockey, it just isn’t the same as baseball. The end of October leaves me counting down until this very day. My beloved Rockies have their first game today down in Arizona. Here’s hoping this is the beginning of a much better than 2008 season!

Baseball is a way of life in my house. In fact, if it weren’t for baseball we’d probably be living in a cardboard box since it is responsible for Mitch’s paycheck. Last year I joined my two loves and had the opportunity to shoot baseball. While it was a good experience, I think the two are better left separated. Because of the crazy and demanding schedule I missed out on most of wedding season and only got in a select few sessions.

Locally, we’re gearing up for the start of the TinCaps season here in Fort Wayne. Opening day isn’t until April 16th, but the longer hours are starting for Mitch, and I’m hearing more about fertilizer programs, equipment, grass, and dirt. Single game tickets went on sale yesterday and it sounds like it is going to be a packed house that first night. I can’t wait!

The best part of all of this… spring is right around the corner! I’ve been eyeing a new bike, and thinking that I can’t wait until it is nice enough for me to ride down to the ballpark.

We were with a short season team last year, so this opening day wasn’t until the middle of May. The crazy part was that it was COLD that night!

My parents flew in for a weekend and I had a day off. What did we do? Well, we watched baseball of course. By the way, you have no idea how hard it was to get someone to take this picture… can’t say Cubs fans are the friendliest around.

Welcome back baseball!

My Husband Didn’t Listen Very Well

But, I’m not too disappointed! We had decided this year that we were just going to play V-Day low key and stay home. No gifts, no cards, no worry right? Well, after work yesterday Mitch showed up wanting me to shut my eyes and pulled an Anna. You see, I can’t buy gifts ahead of time. I get too excited about giving them and end up starting with letting them guess, and then end up just giving them the gift early. The original eye close I believe was for him to get it in the apartment without me seeing. Then, he started negotiating:

“Do you want me to give you your gift now?”

“Well, I wouldn’t argue, but you don’t have to.”

“Well, I mean, what’s the difference in giving it to you now, and making you wait two days?”

“I see no difference.”;)

“Okay, well close your eyes.”

eyes immediately shut!

“Are you sureĀ  you don’t want me to wait?”

Opens eyes, “Yes, I’m sure. I mean, only if you want to.”

“Anna, close your eyes!”

After what seemed like 10 minutes passed, I finally opened my eyes to a beautiful, brand new acoustic Fender guitar.

All last year I hinted that I really wanted an acoustic guitar for Christmas. The beginning of November we went out to Sweetwater to pick one out, and I chickened out. I told him not to worry about it, that I probably wouldn’t have time to learn. Problem was, when we were back in Colorado for the holidays, I listened to my friend Anya play who had just picked it up. She convinced me to just go for it. Well, seeing as how that was the week before Christmas and I had changed my mind and told Mitch all I wanted was a new camera strap, I didn’t get one.

The past month I had started shopping around again and was set that I really wanted one, but had no idea which one. I can’t tell you how excited I am to start learning. Mitch checked out a bunch of DVD’s from the library for me, and it is so incredibly hard for me to get my work done today as the guitar and DVD’s sit just a few feet away. I’m pretty sure I hear them calling me…

Thanks for not listening Mitch!

Happy Halloween!

Late last night we decided to get in the Halloween spirit and hang up some pumpkin lights and carve a couple pumpkins. We still have one more to do, but I’m not holding my breath on it getting done. R.C. did get a pretty awesome Halloween costume, but I just realized that I don’t have those shots with me.

Just so you know, these are just off of the point and shoot, so the quality isn’t as good, it was too late to unpack the big one.

R.C. was infatuated with the pumpkins. He even crawled in a couple times to scope them out.

Mitch is more than just a pretty face on a lawnmower… yes, he is a pretty face with some pumpkin carving skills too. :)

In case you’re wondering, his pumpkin is the baseball team’s new name and logo, the Fort Wayne TinCaps.

The sad thing, it took me longer to carve my kitty pumpkin than it took Mitch to do all of his fancy work.

When R.C. chose though, he picked mine! At least I’m going to keep thinking that!

Happy Halloween!

I Love the Library

When I was younger I could sit and read a good book all day and be completely happy. As you can guess, life has gotten in the way of that little hobby. In fact, now I pretty much only read on car rides or on the airplane between Colorado and here.

Because of the lack of reading lately, it had been quite awhile since I had been at a library. Boy, oh boy did I rediscover it yesterday. Not only can I take my laptop down there to use the internet (I’m back in Portage now, so not at the library), but I can check out the books I’ve been meaning to read and maybe even read a little. The Allen County Library also has an awesome collection of DVD’s and CD’s, and even a few Wii games. Mitch and I have been wanting to rent or buy the seasons of Lost, since we keep hearing how awesome of a show it is. Well, they had it at the library. The best part, it is all free! I mean, I knew that it was, but since it had been so long, I forgot how great that little tid-bit of info was.

The best part of my library trip yesterday, they had a set of 8 DVD’s from Strobist (a lighting blog that I love). I had been wanting to check these DVD’s out for quite some time now, with moving though, the money just wasn’t there. So, you can imagine how excited I was to find them on the shelf yesterday to rent for 3 weeks! Yes, I am happy.

Oh, and a true shocker for anyone that knows Mitch. He willingly came into the library, that alone is big news. I do think that my excitement over the multimedia section had a lot to do with that though. You can imagine my complete amazement though, when at the checkout counter he had a stack of books (they weren’t even picture books, I checked). They were all about grass, but I was impressed nonetheless.

Nothing like a little free fun!

We Are Alive…Disconnected, But Alive

It seem like lately we’ve been living split lives, mostly because we kind of are. Through the end of next month Mitch will be working at both the field in Ft. Wayne and the field in Gary. Which of course means lots of driving (it is about a 2.5 hour drive). Don’t worry about us though, driving is what we do. We are even getting R.C. conditioned to enjoy it.

The thing that has been a little frustrating for me is not having internet at our Ft. Wayne apartment. It makes checking email, updating my blog, and continuing to work on my website a little tough. This is why this post is coming to you from the beautiful Allen County Public Library. Apparently it just finished a few years worth of heavy duty remodeling. Let me tell you, it is a beautiful library!

The other thing that has made life interesting is the time changes. Last Wednesday I was on Colorado time, hopped on a plane, lost two hours, was back in Eastern time (I flew into Indianapolis), drove an hour and a half northeast, and was in Central time, and have since gone back and forth from Central to Eastern four more times. I’m quite positive my body has lost its sense of time completely.

Well, I had better get back to my stack of emails before my time is up. Expect some new pictures from me in my next post!

So… That Earlier Post

Our big secret, well I really didn’t keep very well, so it might not be a secret anymore. But, Mitch and I are officially moving… AGAIN! I’ve brought up the idea of just opening our own moving company, but he wasn’t too receptive, go figure.

We’ll be making our new home in Fort Wayne, Indiana. That puts us about 2 to 2.5 hours east of where we are now. The great news is, I get to go back to only my photography, which for anyone who has spoke to me in the last couple of months knows that is the best news I could possibly get. Even better, Mitch is getting to live out what is a dream of just about any little boy. He is basically getting to design and tweak a brand spanking new baseball field to his specifications. The stadium and area around it is going to be pretty fabulous.

We’ve been down there a few times. This last trip we lucked out and had pretty much all of the head guys as far as the field build goes, there. They had just started setting up all of the drainage for the field and tomorrow when we head down they will be preparing the irrigation system. For now Mitch is going to be finishing up and winterizing the SteelYard, so that it is left in good shape for whoever takes that over. We aren’t 100% on an exact move date, but I really can’t wait to get moved.

If you want to check out the construction project and all of the details with the Harrison Square project (which are pretty cool) check out this site http://www.harrisonsquarefortwayne.com/ .

The surprise part of my earlier post we found yesterday morning. After a pretty hard morning of saying goodbye to our GM, Bill, who was pretty awesome and that we all knew we were going to miss, one of the guys came running out of the break room and said there was a cat in there. Of course I went running, and then he said kitten, and I went sprinting. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a cat lover and have been bugging Mitch every chance I get to get one. Anyway, once I got into the room, I saw that he was curled up under our big server cabinet. As soon as we got close he darted out and about to every spot he could within 10 seconds. He finally settled behind our big Pepsi fridge that I eventually pulled him out of (after the first attempt that left me cat bitten). R.C. (as we named him) snuggled in my lap in a towel for about an hour. As soon as I stopped petting though, he wanted to dart.

Well, to make a long story short, R.C. is finally settling down. He started purring this morning, which was a great sign. He caught right on with the whole litterbox idea and when we went to the vet tonight he calmly sat there while they clipped his nails (even one that was too close), cleaned his ears, and got two vaccines. He still hides in every little spot, but I think it is just going to take him some time to warm up.

Just scoping out his new field.

Right behind that wall is going to be Mitch’s shop, aka second home.

Hard to believe now, but this is the field.

Talking about all of the little details that I nod and smile to.

And this, is R.C., who looks scared witless here but this is actually calm for him.

I don’t think it is as obvious in these pictures as it is in real life, but R.C. looks so much like my cat Friskie. Friskie obviously still lives in Colorado with my parents. She is now in her 20’s (either 21 or 22), but when we found her she was a wild kitten just about R.C.’s size in our garage. Since then she has become a member of our family and became my Dad’s buddy (someone who strongly disliked cats).

A couple big changes, but changes we are both very excited about!
