Stop That Clock

It didn’t really hit me how quickly this past year had passed until December when I was shooting pictures of little Ethan and realized he was almost a year old. Where did the past year go?

Since I can’t go back and slow it down, I better just embrace it. Ethan has grown to be even cuter than he was, and I have a feeling that with his blue eyes he’s only going to get cuter and cuter as the years come and go.

Do you see what I mean about those eyes?

I wish that I could capture the sound that came with this picture. Ethan doesn’t have a giggle… he has a full out laugh. There is no way that you can hear that laugh and not join in.

Before we did Ethan’s pictures we did some family shots. Here are the cards that I delivered to Troy and Julie.

This is Ethan waving bye! Come back Saturday for a Nebraska senior.

Playing a Game of Catch Up

Mitch and I made it back to Indiana. I have to admit, the ride back didn’t go near as quickly as the ride out. I think a lot of it had to do with anticipation, oh, and our lovely parting gifts of what we’ve decided must be colds. Mitch seems to be getting better, I don’t think I can say the same for myself yet. Since, I’m not going to be out and about while this sickness has a hold on me, I decided today was as probably as good of a day as any to start playing a little catch up with blog posts.

This post isn’t exactly in order, but I think I’ve gotten about all of the patience I should expect out of this special four year old. Over the past year our niece Stephanie has asked a few times why she isn’t on here. She was especially curious after her friend Preston was on here, but she wasn’t. So, now it is Stephanie’s turn! On Christmas Eve she toughed out some chilly weather, but in true model fashion she made it so you couldn’t even tell. Don’t worry, her assistant (Uncle Mitch) was always close by with her coat.

This is one of those images that made me stop and ask where the last four years have gone?!

The night before, when we gave Stephanie her outfit, she immediately ran for the living room and started twirling in her tutu. She is quite the little ballerina.

I’m thinking that in 12 years or so her dad is going to have quite the job cut out for himself.

This was one of Steph’s poses that she made up all on her own.

Thank you for being a fabulous model Steph! Uncle Mitch and I already miss you.

My First Newborn

Newborn photography is something that has intimidated me for quite some time. In fact, newborns alone intimidate me. Including little Bryson, the only other newborn I think I’ve even held was my nephew. I don’t know, I think I’m afraid of dropping them.

However, I looked forward to this session for about eight months! I posted some of Bri’s maternity images awhile ago (click here to see those). Little Bryson did not disappoint. He is absolutely beautiful and I’m sure has already grown a ton!

It would figure that he had been sleeping tons, up until his big photo shoot. He must have been excited! We did luckily get a few sleepy shots.

The Wonder of Christmas

Isn’t it funny how easy it is to get caught up in the shopping, baking, and just overall craziness of the holidays? When I was editing these pictures there were a few that made me stop and really see the look in Jaylyn’s eyes. There was just absolute wonder. It is amazing how absolutely impressive everything is when you can look at it through a child’s eyes.

On top of that, this was such a fun session for me. I don’t get to see this little girl near as much as I would like to. Living 800+ miles away definitely makes it hard. When my brother, Kristin, and Jaylyn came out to visit us in June we had so much fun with her (well with Brian and Kristin, also). She has so much personality! Her laugh and wrinkled nose would make anyone giggle right along with her.

Can you honestly look at this smile and not smile back?

I can just hear her saying, “Who me?”

The Camera’s Back

I’ve been busy lately. Funny thing is, before last week it wasn’t even with a camera. I’ve had card designs and album work, essentially tons of computer work to get caught up on that had to be back in time for Christmas.

I have gotten a few sessions in, however. In fact, this last Saturday I did a Christmas Mini Session for Lauren. I have to say that I luck out with seniors. Not only have my seniors all been beautiful girls and handsome guys, they are all super well rounded students. Right after we finished this session Lauren was off to her choir concert (talented, too). I still can’t believe how many shots we got in about 45 minutes!

I think Lauren looks like she could have just crawled out of an Abercrombie ad in this shot.

One of my favorite parts of  a session is scouting out the locations I may use. Nothing beats finding an old rusted out wall that makes the perfect backdrop and that no one would ever suspect.

I love golden light and sun flare. Right before Lauren had to run for the concert we jumped into this field, right at sunset.

We completely lucked out and got one of the prettiest December days we could have asked for. I hope you enjoy these Lauren!

I Love Photography

I’m sure you’re thinking, “Well duh!” But, really I have a job that allows me to give people something that they can hold onto forever. Moments, minutes, hours, days, months, they fly by. Photographs give you just enough to hold onto to really take you back. These images are of one of my absolute best friends in the world. She will never be pregnant with this little boy again, but I was given the chance to freeze one evening that she was. I can give her these to hold onto, when he is our age I’m sure that they will put a smile on her face.

This is Bri. This picture is exactly what comes to mind when I think of Bri. I have laughed more times than I can remember with Bri and it will never get old!

It could have something to do with my subject, but this is one of my all time favorite images that I have done.

bblog3

Is it hardly fair that at almost nine months pregnant Bri can still wear her pre-pregnancy jeans? I sometimes have a hard time after a big meal, much less a little boy.

bblog2

One of Bri’s requested shots, with a little of my flavor!

bblog4

Thank you so much Bri for letting me take these pictures. I absolutely can’t wait to meet him. Oh and if you could keep him in until I’m in Colorado, that would be great! Ha, only joking!

bblog9

Oh, and a proud moment for me. I usually really stink at the measuring game at baby showers. Well, I was really close on this one, closer than Brooke anyway! ;)

I miss you girls tons!

Where Does All of the Energy Come From?!

I did pictures of P. when he was almost two and I remember getting quite the workout then. Apparently when you’re four years old you have an endless amount of energy and a pretty awesome imagination. We hunted monsters, tickled mommy, and if I remember right we even found some porcupines. I also slept very well that night!

P and my niece are buddies, so I kind of feel like I’ve grown up with him. It is so hard to believe that they are four already!

The amount of different expressions that I saw while editing these pictures cracked me up, personality is not lacking here!

Surprisingly enough, there were only a couple somber shots though. What a handsome guy, huh?

This was somewhere in the middle of the monster hunt. Melinda (his mom) and I were getting pretty good at fitting through the tiny spots in this little “forest” by the end of it.

There was zero hesitation when I asked him to tickle his mommy.

This shot just screams, “I’m sweet and innocent, I never upset my mommy!”

Thanks so much guys, I hope the birthday party was loads of fun!

The Perfect Fall Day… Well Almost

Nancy and I had been working on getting a date set since I did pictures of her nephew Ethan back in April and we finally had the perfect Octber day. We had been worried about the weather, but when I pulled up a couple hours early (I always like to scout out where I’m shooting) to Cherry Creek State Park it was beautiful! I’m talking no wind, 70 degrees, perfect cloud cover, and on top of that the changing Colorado trees. Really, does it get better than that?

We ended up kicking off the family shoot about an hour earlier than we had planned, and boy did that end up being a good thing! I had all of these great locations scouted out and we had hit a couple of them when out of nowhere the wind kicked up like crazy and it started spitting on us. This wind wasn’t a nice breeze that we could work with, so we had to call the shoot. Of course we got some great shots first, but how couldn’t you with three beautiful girls and a mom and dad that weren’t too bad either! We’ll just have to save the lake and beach shots for next time.

See what I mean about the perfect day and colors?

It cracked me up how different all three of the girls’ personalities were. Their jumping shot shows it perfectly!

However, I think that this one just shows it a little bit better. Funny how their individuality comes through without even seeing their faces.

By this time it had started to cool down and we knew that our time was limited.

So, instead of running to the next spot, why not skip?!

I’m quite positive that they were probably fighting to keep their eyes open between the wind and rain at this point, but they held strong and you couldn’t even tell!

Thanks again Steve, Nancy, and girls, I had a great time and thanks for putting up with my lame jokes! :)

Tomorrow pictures of a new 4 year old!

Something a Little Different

I’ve gotten so used to shooting families, kids, seniors, and weddings lately that I almost forgot what it was like to shoot anything else. During my last trip back my friend Jaci got ahold of me to take some shots of the Northeastern Junior College Art Department. I covered their graphics program, theatre department, and music department for some promo pieces.

I had an absolute blast moving out of what had become my comfort zone back into providing some art for artists!

First up was the theatre department…

Then we moved onto graphics…

And finished up with music…

Of course I had to get a few traditional headshots too!

Later this week I have some images of a beautiful family to share!

Jordan… The Return Trip

The first time we tried to get Jordan’s senior pictures done we were cut short thanks to the typical quick moving Colorado storm. This time, I made sure I didn’t comment on how perfect of a day we had so that I didn’t jinx us again. And you know what? We ended up having perfect weather and got some great shots! It is pretty much impossible to get a bad shot of Jordan though.

Thanks for making more time for us to finish up your session Jordan!
